Flood Warning for the West Fork of the San Jacinto River in Houston
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for West Fork of the San Jacinto River in Houston until further notice. This means that flash flooding is in progress, imminent, or very likely.
At 02:45 a.m. Friday, May 10, the River's stage was 40 feet, and Minor flooding is forecast.
The river's Flood stage at this location is 49.3 feet. It is forecast to rise above flood stage to near 49.9 feet by late this morning. NWS anticipates that the river will fall below flood stage by tonight.
At 52.3 feet, major lowland flooding begins as homes on Lake Lane West and Southshore Drive in the Belleau Woods subdivision begin flooding. Roads into the Treasure Cove subdivision are inundated and homes along Aqua Vista Drive threatened. Water is in many homes on Lake Point Drive in the Northshore subdivision.
People in the area should avoid the river as it rises. Residents near the river should make preparations in the event they are not able to leave their homes due to high water.
Turn Around, Don't Drown®: Do not drive through flooded areas. If you see water covering the road, do not attempt to cross it. Only takes a few inches of water to float a vehicle. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation where your vehicle is taking on water, get out of the vehicle, get to a higher position, and call 911.
