AlertHouston | Shelter in Place Continues in Southwest Houston Due to Hazardous Chemical Release

Shelter-In-Place Ordered due to Hazardous Chemical Release

The City of Houston continues to respond to the release of a hazardous material at 7830 Westpark.  In order to protect public safety, the Houston Fire Department has ordered a Shelter-in-Place for the following areas until further notice:

Shelter In Place
Residents in the following area:
  • North Boundary: Westheimer
  • East Boundary: Chimney Rock
  • South Boundary: Westpark Tollway
  • West Boundary: Dunvale
should shelter-in-place immediately.  This material may be dangerous to your health.  This means people should seek shelter inside a building and remain inside until the danger passes.
  • Close all doors and windows.  Shut off heating and cooling systems. Take shelter in an interior room.  Try to seal the door to your shelter room with plastic sheeting and or duct tape.
  • Vehicles can offer some protection for a short period of time if the windows are closed and the ventilating systems are turned off.  Vehicles are less effective than buildings for shelter-in-place protection.

Stay Informed
People in the impacted area should stay informed through official channels: radio stations 88.7FM or 740AM, local news stations, and monitoring official social media channels on Twitter and Facebook.  Only call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies.
